Nikolai never expected the sharp-tongued coffee shop waitress standing in front of him to challenge him…and she picked the wrong day to pick a fight with a pissed-off Russian mafia king.
She bit her bottom lip. Nervous tic or calculated move, I couldn’t tell, but it drew my eyes down to that goddamn mouth of hers. Soft. Full. Screaming to be ruined.
“You’re full of yourself,” she snapped, clearly catching my stare. “But let me guess. You think girls like me should be seen and not heard, right?”
“No,” I said coolly. “I think girls like you should be f***ed face down until that pretty mouth learns when to stay busy and when to stay silent—until obedience stops being a choice.”
~Nikolai Volkov, Eyes on You
This Nikolai Volkov quote comes from Eyes on You by Evie James, the first book in the Sin Syndicate series. Nikolai is a controlled Russian mafia king used to silence, obedience, and fear—until Lyla Oakley mouths off inside Cipher Coffee and becomes the one disruption he cannot ignore. Their story blends dangerous attraction, forced proximity, sharp banter, morally gray obsession, and the first spark of a possessive fixation that only gets darker.
